Singapore Symphony Children's Choir
''
The Singapore Symphony Children's Choir (SSCC) is the associated children's choir of the Singapore Symphony Chorus (SSC).
In June 2006, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, together with choral conductor par excellence Maestro Lim Yau, laid the groundwork for the Singapore Symphony Children's Choir. The Children's Choir Training Programme provides young singers aged between 9 and 16 years with a comprehensive initiation into the art of good singing, which includes music literacy, musicianship and proper vocal training. Young singers who have been accepted in the training programme learn the art of breathing, posture, phonetics and diction, in addition to pitch, rhythm, expression and learn classical music.
After one year in the Training Programme, the young trainees may audition for placement in the Singapore Symphony Children's Choir. They will then receive training in the finer points of singing to performer classical masterworks with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
In June 2015, the SSCC performed their first concert overseas, in Paris, France, where they were invited by the Maîtrise de Radio France to sing alongside them at the newly-built Philarmonie de Paris. They also performed for Singapore's 50th Birthday (SG50) and the 50th year of collaboration between France and Singapore at the Cite de l'Architechture et du Patrimoine.
The SSCC have also performed at concerts such as the Women's Tennis Association Finals in 2014 and 2015, which were held in Singapore, and also participated in the making of the song "These are the days" (written by Lee Chin Sin), the winner of MEDIACORP's Gift of Song competition for Singapore's 50th Anniversary as an independent nation.
Since the refurbishing of the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall in July 2014, the choir have been having their rehearsals there and perform there regularly.
